Love this Romantic Los Angeles Hotel

Most Romantic Los Angeles Hotel?  How about one that’s secluded on 12 lush acres in Beverly Hills and is positively steeped in Hollywood love affair history?  You just couldn’t ask for a better backstory.

The "Pink Palace" is easily the most romantic Los Angeles hotel.

The Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows

The “pink” palace was built in 1912 and offers 185 rooms and suites – plus 23 storied bungalows nestled in a romantic garden setting. Elizabeth Taylor honeymooned with six of her eight husbands here and lived in Bungalow 5 with Richard Burton when they were newlyweds. Marilyn Monroe preferred Bungalow 1. John Lennon and Yoko Ono once hid out in Bungalow 11 for a week.

Taylor and Burton had a standing order for a bottle of vodka to be delivered daily with their lunch. Having seen Bungalow 5, I imagine – depending on the weather – they enjoyed their adult beverages around their private pool or in front of the fireplace.

Being somewhat less extravagant, my husband and I cozied up for cocktails and quiet conversation in the famed Polo Lounge. After more than a century, this watering hole remains the spot to socialize, ink big deals, enjoy live piano, and be seen.

The professional waiters here in white dinner jackets are reminiscent of the heady days of making movies. Authentic ambience and iconic identity definitely help make The BHH the most romantic Los Angeles hotel. All the mod cons are here, but it’s the kind of place that makes you want to silence your smart phone and just go with the Hollywood-glam fantasy.

The Polo Lounge Patio is the perfect place for a romantic meal and cozy conversation.

Romantic Los Angeles hotel amenities

The hotel’s address is Sunset Boulevard, but it’s set back from the street and surrounded by towering palms and stunning tropical gardens. This makes it easy to tune out L.A. and tune into each other.  In fact, the hotel feels like a relaxed resort – especially at the large swimming pool, surrounded by ten beautiful self-contained cabanas. With the super-attentive wait staff, it would be easy to spend the whole day here.

We also loved the sunset view over the L.A. skyline from the hotel’s Bar Nineteen12, the al fresco Cabana Café,  and the beautiful Spa by La Prairie. If you stay here, you don’t even need to drive. The hotel’s house car – a Bentley – is provided free of charge for trips within five miles – and that includes Rodeo Drive.  I know you can’t buy love, but …

Have fun,

Elizabeth Hansen

    Elizabeth,

This is a very special place and a real treat for anyone wanting to feel connected to the grace and hospitality associated with the Golden Age of Hollywood. Even if an overnight stay cannot be arranged a meal at the Polo Lounge should not be missed. Whenever my mother (who grew up in the era of Shirley Temple) is with me in Los Angeles we plan a weekday repast at the Polo Lounge so she can watch the movie stars and their agents “do lunch.” Her delight is my own while I revel in consuming the Cobb Salad named for my friend’s father. Expect excellent food along with outstanding service in an atmosphere that makes a simple meal something very special. Staying overnight and eating at the Polo Lounge is even better!

    Thanks for the wonderful reminder.

Although I grew up about a mile from this hotel, I’ve never set foot on the premises. Your article and photos have inspired me to change that. Awesome description! Thank you!

    Hi Elizabeth,
With all due respect, I’m not sure if this situation has changed but as of last year, the owner of the Beverly Hills Hotel was the Sultan of Brunei, someone who imposed strict Sharia law—which calls for stoning gays and adulterers and last May, Hollywood activists began a boycott of the hotel and his other luxury properties.

I have no proof of this but I’ve read it more than once. I wouldn’t usually be interested in anything hollywood is boycotting however, personally, anyone who agrees with, supports and/or enforces Sharia law is someone I will not support. What a shame if this is true.
